Privacy policy
Last updated:
This policy covers goldberry.dev: the landing page and the documentation under /docs/. It says what is collected when you read them, why, who processes it, and how to change your mind. Goldberry the library collects nothing: an application built with it sends nothing to this site or to anyone else.
Who is responsible
goldberry.dev is run by the maintainer of the Goldberry open-source project, DigitalSmile on GitHub, who decides what the site collects and is the controller of that data under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To ask about your data, or to use any of the rights below, open an issue on GitHub, or, for a request you would rather not make in public, contact the maintainer through the GitHub profile.
What happens on every visit
These happen whether or not you accept cookies. None of them sets a cookie.
- Hosting. The site is served by GitHub Pages. GitHub receives your IP address and the usual request details (page, time, browser) to deliver the page and keep the service secure, as described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement. Legal basis: legitimate interest in serving the site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Fonts on the landing page. The landing page loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address to Google when it opens that page. See the Google Privacy Policy. The documentation and this page do not use Google Fonts.
- The star count. The landing page asks the GitHub API (api.github.com) for the repository's number of stars at most once an hour, from your browser.
Counting visits, only with your consent
If you press Accept in the cookie banner, the site loads Yandex Metrika, a web analytics service, to learn how many people read the site, where they come from, and which pages help them. If you decline, or never answer, Metrika is not loaded, and nothing is counted.
With your consent, Metrika collects:
- the pages you open, the page you came from, the time and length of the visit;
- your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language;
- an approximate location derived from your IP address;
- clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, used for the click map;
- a recording of the session (Metrika's Webvisor), which can be replayed to see how a page was used. The site has no forms; text you type into the documentation's search box may be part of the recording.
Processor and transfer. Metrika is provided by YANDEX LLC, Moscow, Russia, which processes the data on its servers and keeps it for the periods its terms set. Russia is outside the European Economic Area and has no adequacy decision under the GDPR. The data is transferred there on the basis of your explicit consent (GDPR Art. 49(1)(a)), and you should know that Russian law may give authorities access to it. See the Yandex Privacy Policy and Metrika's terms of use.
Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time below. Withdrawing does not affect what was processed before.
The maintainer sees reports and session recordings in Metrika. They are used only to improve the site and the documentation, are not combined with other data, are not sold, and are not used for advertising.
Cookies and local storage
With your consent, Metrika sets these cookies on goldberry.dev, among others:
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
_ym_uid | Yandex Metrika | tells one visitor's visits apart from another's | 1 year |
_ym_d | Yandex Metrika | the date of your first visit | 1 year |
_ym_isad | Yandex Metrika | whether an ad blocker is on | 2 days |
_ym_visorc | Yandex Metrika | the session recording | 30 minutes |
Metrika may set further cookies, on goldberry.dev and on Yandex's own domains; Yandex lists them in its cookie documentation.
Without asking, the site keeps a few settings in your browser's local storage. They never leave your browser and are not cookies:
gb-consent: your answer to the cookie banner, and the date you gave it;gb-theme: light or dark, if you chose one;gb-stars: the star count, so it is fetched at most once an hour;gb-tab: the language you last picked in a code sample in the documentation;- the documentation's own keys (named
mdbook-…) for its theme and sidebar.
Your choice
Your browser needs JavaScript for this setting. Without it, Metrika is never loaded.
Declining after you accepted deletes Metrika's _ym cookies on goldberry.dev and reloads
the page, so it stops counting. Cookies on Yandex's own domains can be removed in your browser's
settings. You can also block Metrika for every site with Yandex's
opt-out add-on.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask for access to your data, for its correction or deletion, for its
processing to be restricted, to receive it in a portable form, and you may object to processing
based on legitimate interest. You can complain to the data protection authority where you live or
work. Metrika does not tell the maintainer who you are: to find your visits, a request needs the
value of your _ym_uid cookie, which your browser shows in its site settings.
Changes
This page changes when the site's use of data does, and the date at the top changes with it. If what is collected with your consent changes, the banner asks you again. The history of this page is in the repository.
